Tropical storm, CHENESO, made landfall, north of Antalaha, North Eastern Coast of Madagascar, on 19 January at about 10:45 AM local time with maximum sustained winds of 90 km/h and gusts up to 120 km/h.
Weeks after making landfall, ensuing heavy rains persisted across the 17 regions, affecting 90,870 people from 20,980 households. A total thirty-three (33) deaths were reported and another 20 missing. Slightly over 34,000 people were displaced and sheltered in 115 sites in 07 Regions.
All humanitarian response efforts have thus far been led by the National Bureau for Disaster Risk Management (BNGRC).
17 health facilities were either been partially or completely destroyed. These included eight (8) Level I basic health centers and nine (9) Level II basic health centers. Additionally, 4 lodgings and administrative buildings under Health Ministry have been affected.
